QFSW Holds Workshop on Child Rights Report Writing
Doha, February 28 - Qatar Foundation for Social Work (QFSW) in cooperation with the UN Training and Documentation Centre for South-West Asia and Arab Region organized a workshop on writing and preparing reports in the field of Child Rights.
Organizing the workshop comes within the framework of strengthening the ability of states and all stakeholders, including non-governmental organizations, in the Arab region to fulfill their obligations in the field of human rights, by submitting reports to various UN bodies within deadlines, and in a manner consistent with the relevant guiding principles.
Director of the United Nations Center for Training and Documentation in the Field of Human Rights for Southwest Asia and the Arab Region Dr. Abeer Khreisha and Human Rights Officer at the UN Human Rights Training and Documentation Centre for South-West Asia and the Arab Region Ishraq bin Al Zain presented the workshop which saw 35 participants from the employees of QFSW and its affiliated centers.
QFSW seeks to prepare a report that is parallel to the report of the State of Qatar to present it to the Committee on the Rights of the Child.
Through the workshop, QFSW seeks to increase the capacity of its representatives who are going to participate in preparing the report.
The Workshop program had a number of objectives, such as reminding with the international human rights system, introducing general and specific guidelines for report writing, and focusing on submitting reports to the Committee on the Rights of the Child. The program also focused on the role of civil society in interacting with the committee.
The second part of the program was dedicated to the issues raised by the Committee in its latest report, regarding the reports of party states. It also focused on the importance of using the human rights indicators in preparing and writing reports, with a special focus on indicators related to Child Rights.
QFSW Chief Executive Officer Ahmad bin Mohammed Al Kuwari extended thanks to the UN Training and Documentation Centre for the continuous institutional support for the Foundation's programs, reiterating the QFSW's keenness to strengthen partnerships and benefit from international practices, and to learn about the latest developments in issues related to the target groups.
Director of Advocacy and International Relations Department at QFSW Ghada Al Subaey said that the Foundation seeks to develop the skills and capabilities of employees, pointing out that during this year it is organizing a number of workshops for its members and for the employees of its affiliated centers, as the Foundation organizes during this year a number of workshops for its members and for the employees of its affiliated centers, which started with the workshop on preparing and writing reports in the field of Child Rights.
As part of the Foundation's endeavor to prepare a parallel report to the report of the State of Qatar to be presented before the Committee on the Rights of the Child, QFSW requested from the UN Training and Documentation Centre to provide technical support and raise the capabilities of its representatives who will participate in preparing the report.
She pointed out that beside the theoretical part, the workshop included a practical part that included practical exercises, such as working groups and looking at some practical examples so that the participants could apply the principles of reporting before the Committee on the Rights of the Child.
